Doddette the Daisy is a kind sort of bloom;
Delightful and gentle, and opposed to the gloom.
Her best friend is Miss Lucy the Lilac;
A beautiful bumbling, grumbling wisecrack.
Also there is a Chrysanthemum Chris
A sporty ol’ fellow who never would miss.
Next there is Sir Sandy Snapdragon,
Who always sells nectar in his shiny red wagon.
Buttercup Belle, who lives down the street,
And never leaves her endeavors incomplete.
Ole Tulip Tom is a cranky old vine,
But can always be calmed by Carrie Columbine.
Roxanne Rose and Madison Marigold
are tough and tenacious;
The neighborhood stronghold.
Alex Azalea is an excellent cook,
And passes out free honey down by the brook.
Oliver Orchid is the local schoolteacher
Who sometimes doubles as the synagogue’s preacher.
And Dahlia David is that little bud
Who dances and frolicks around in the mud.
And on this very day, (the twenty-eighth of May!),
the humble inhabitants of Flowerville Farm
have gathered to hear their Mayor’s alarm.
For Miss Mayor Larkspur
Has called a town meeting-
(For there have been rumors of an uprising unseating)-
But the unease of it all has been rather fleeting,
As officials bring out the Flower Book of Lore!
Their most sacred script that they worship and adore.
The blooms go wild as the Book is set up
And the cover is opened and the leaves are flipped-
When suddenly the paper is dipped!
And to the crowd a ghastly sight constricts.
Miss Mayor Larkspur! Pressed among the pages!
And so marks the beginning of Nature’s Dark Ages.
